III. Executive Report

  • Skipping approval of meeting agenda and minutes.
  • Tenure and promotion document working on by the Jaime and Senate Executive Committee.
  • Dianne Olivier’s office will provide an cleaned-up version of the Faculty Handbook. Provided to Senate with tracked changes as well as clean copy. Posted for Senator review for 3-4 weeks. Pending concerns it will be accepted by the Faculty Senate.
  • Learning Module System. Discussion with Dianne Olivier.
  • Faculty Senate Elections
    • Clai Rice commented that Kelly has the roster for the units

V. Senate Committee Reports
  • Eve representing that the committee faculty groups and women. Researching DEI policies and faculty retention of minority professors. Report expected next week.

  • External Issues
    • Bill sponsored by Representative Fryberg will allow faculty opted Optional Retirement a one-time switch to TRSL. Window for choosing to switch to TRSL will be short.
      • Possible amendments to the bill.
        • Insuring window for switching reasonably long. Extending to 1-year from point that bill becomes law.
        • Giving new hires a 5-year window to make a decision. Because the TRSL opted have a 5-window to make a decision to switch to ORP.
          • Give parity with TRSL participants.
          • Give faculty a much better understanding of their future at the university.
      • Still in flux. Not sure about traction
    • Paid Parental Leave
      • Confusion over paid parental leave versus FMLA
      • Questions about what the eligibility requirements were.
      • Now have access to the policy. Link created to page on the HR website about eligibility for paid parental leave. Paul Thomas addressed questions raised by the equity caucus. HR will come to department or colleges to present on this issue if requested.
